- My bird just flew away, what do I do?

Keep track of where your bird flew to, when a bird flies out into the "wild" it is scared and often very disoriented. If you can keep sight of your bird keep calling to it nicely, don't panic. Some birds will eventually come down after they understand that they're no longer at home.

If your bird flies out of sight, call animal control and let them know that you just lost your bird. Start creating flyers to post around town. Also post on craigslist.org - CraigsList is read by thousands of people every day. Other sites you can post to for free is Findmybird.com and Petfinder.org

- I saw a parrot in a tree or flying around, what do I do?
Most exotic birds that are out flying around are scared half to death and most will not come to you. Take the time to create a posting on lost & found sites like this one and craigslist.org. The bird's owner is more than likely looking for it and would be happy to know that the bird is at least alive. Make sure you are as specific as possible when you mention area.

- I found a bird but don't know what to do with it!
A dog crate or kennel can suffice as a temporary holding cage for a bird. Please do not just let the bird go if you cannot immediately find its owner! Call the local animal control and ask if anyone's lost a bird, look to see if the bird has a band around its foot, owners will know about them. You can post on Findmybird.com and Petfinder.org.

Most importantly - Do not just give the bird to someone that says it's is theirs..make sure they can identify the bird(type of bird, colors, bands, if it talks). There are a lot of people out there that will say the bird is theirs just so they can turn around and sell it.
